Athletistic / Olympics. Olympic speed skating champion and now a deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Svetlana Zhurova expressed doubts about the participation of Russian athletes in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. She is baffled by the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) current entry requirements.

“Peskov (press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation – Rating Athletistic), probably meant that even if there was no Russia for the IOC, our athletes would still be theirs for Russian citizens. Another question is: will they go to Paris? Here we break spears against each other, one says a harsher wording, the other a softer wording. I suspect our athletes are unlikely to go anywhere. The IOC is once again pitting us against each other, trying to divide us from within. This is partly why all this is being done,” Zhurova said, as quoted by RIA Novosti Sport.

On December 8, the IOC Executive Committee decided to admit athletes from the Russian Federation and Belarus to the 2024 Summer Olympic Games with individual neutral status and subject to a number of conditions. It should be noted that athletes from Russia and Belarus can participate in the Paris Games only in individual disciplines, while team sports competitions will be held without the participation of these countries.

The 2024 Olympic Games will be held in the French capital from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
