“Bolshunov on the ski slope thinks of nothing but first place” – Vyalbe

President of the Russian Ski Federation (RFSR) Elena Vyalbe shared his thoughts on the performance Alexandra Bolshunova this season, observing that the athlete on the ski slope thinks of nothing other than first place.

Bolshunov has won 23 consecutive victories in individual races this season.

— The championship took place at a good level, although, unfortunately, we could not organize the last two races – 30 kilometers for women and 50 kilometers for men – due to the cancellation of the competition for obvious reasons. It’s gratifying that there was a serious fight at all distances.

“This time, even such a clear favorite as Bolshunov struggled to win both the sprint and the skiathlon, in which he won with just 0.11 seconds ahead of Alexey Chervotkin.

— Sasha was ill before the championship, and at first I was very worried that he would be on the starting line. But that’s his character. He is a person who works hard in training to compete and always does everything to achieve victory. He devotes himself entirely to the sport and on the ski slope he thinks of nothing other than first place. And no matter the level of competition.

—Sometimes it seems that Alexander is performing even better than during the Olympic season?

— It’s difficult to judge that. However, we do not currently meet our main competitors on the ski slopes.

— You said that Stepanova had no one to compete with. Did you want to talk only about this discipline or the championship as a whole?

– In general. Given her talent and the right attitude for every race, Stepanova should beat everyone, including [Анастасию] Kuleshov.

—Is he the obvious leader of the team?

“Of course,” Vyalbe was quoted as saying by the press service of the Russian Olympic Committee.

The Russian Cup final in the form of a mini-tournament will be held from April 3 to 7 in Kirovsk.
