Some biathletes were unhappy with working with the Slovak mentor
Head coach Ukrainian men’s biathlon team Juraj Sanitra will not lead the team next season, reports Suspilne: Sport.
One of the reasons for Sanitra’s departure is the dissatisfaction of some biathletes with working with the coach. It is not yet known who will lead the national team.
Sanitra has worked with the Ukrainian men’s team since 2016, and in the 2020/21 season he also led the women’s team. For the last year, the Slovakian has been the head coach of all men’s biathlon. It was planned that he would work with the national team until the 2026 Olympics.
At the end of the 2023/24 season, the Ukrainian men’s team took 11th place in the Nations Cup and lost one quota for the World Cup. In the 2024/25 season, the blue-yellows will be able to field a maximum of four athletes.
In the past biathlon season, the highest achievements of Ukrainian biathletes were two fifth places in the relay races – the men’s in Hochfilzen and the women’s in Ruhpolding.
At the individual level, three top 10 finishes are worthy of mention, namely: Prima’s 9th place in the short individual race (Antholz), Merkushina’s 10th result in the pursuit (Lenzerheide) and a similar place taken by Pidruchny in the sprint (Canmore) .
