Athletistic / Others. The president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Thomas Bach, spoke of the political influence exerted on the organization. He acknowledged that there is indeed an impact.

Bach said this during the General Assembly of the National Olympic Committees (NOCs) of Oceania.

“We must protect our autonomy by all means. I have said this many times. But it obviously needs to be repeated. This does not mean that we are apolitical, that we do not recognize political influence. If that were the case, then we not be relevant.

The IOC chief said he had managed to persuade Ukraine and Russia not to boycott the Paris Olympics.

But the difference is that we must be neutral. National Olympic Committees must understand that a person who is now part of the government of the country may find himself in the opposition tomorrow and vice versa. These people have other interests that are different from ours. “And you remain neutral,” Bach said.
