The activities of “Space of Life” are based on the draft state standard of social service “Social and psychological rehabilitation of persons with gambling addiction”
On March 26, in Ukraine, with the support of socially responsible businesses, the first specialized institution was opened for comprehensive assistance to people at risk of gambling addiction, their families and loved ones, as well as the implementation of scientific and educational projects for the prevention of gambling addiction – the Center for Socio-Psychological Support “Space of Life. Life Space”.
The activities of “Space of Life” are based on the draft state standard of social service “Social and psychological rehabilitation of persons with gambling addiction”, the development of which is now being completed by specialists from the GO “Center for Responsible Gaming” together with the Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine and the National Social Service Service of Ukraine.
The opening of the center for socio-psychological support took place with the participation of government institutions, business and the public – representatives of the Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine, NSSSU, KRAIL, KSCA, KOGA, the Institute for Modernization of the Content of Education of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the Public Health Center of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, as well as operators of the Ukrainian gambling business.
According to the chief psychologist of the Center, Tatyana Sinitskaya, and the head of the medical department, Konstantin Aymedov, the institution’s services will be aimed at different categories of people – both those who are just beginning to lose control over their gambling and do not recognize the problem, and those who already have a pronounced addiction.
The task of the center’s psychologists will be timely and correct diagnosis, as well as the preparation and implementation of an individual psychological support program aimed at creating sustainable motivation for recovery, psychological changes and return to society.
Also, visitors to the “Space of Life” will be able to receive legal advice regarding the inclusion of them or their family members in the Register of persons who have restricted access to gambling establishments or participation in gambling, which is maintained by KRAIL.
Representative of the Commission for the Regulation of Gambling and Lotteries Yuri Yurchuk noted that CRAIL today is conducting active preventive activities to increase citizens’ awareness of the risks of gambling, and also added that the work on providing socio-psychological services in specialized centers is an important element in the prevention of gambling addiction .
The opening of the space was supported by socially responsible businesses in the gambling industry. The project to introduce a system of providing social services to people with gambling addiction in Ukraine is being implemented by the GO “Center for Responsible Gaming” together with the Ministry of Social Policy.
