The Spanish coach will not leave the Pharmacists next summer
Head coach Bayer Xabi Alonso will remain at the German club, despite interest from Bayern and Liverpool. The Spaniard publicly announced his decision.
“I had a good meeting with Bayer representatives and I told them that I would stay and continue to work at the club. After talking for a long time about my future, I used the break to think and make a decision. This is where I need to be,” Alonso said.
“My work at Bayer is not finished. I want to help the club and players develop. I’m still a young coach, but I think this is the best decision for my future.”
Alonso will take over at Bayer Leverkusen in October 2022. This season, the Pharmacists under the leadership of the Spaniard have not yet suffered a single defeat (33 wins, 5 draws).
Pharmacists with Alonso are confidently leading in the Bundesliga, ten points ahead of Bayern eight rounds before the end of the championship. Bayer will play West Ham in the Europa League quarter-finals.
Bayer will play their next match at home against Hoffenheim on March 30. Starts at 16:30.
