World cycling champion Melekhina dies at the age of 62

World team road cycling champion in 1989, multiple champion of the USSR and Russia, Natalia Melekhina, died at the age of 61, reports the press service of the Russian Cycling Federation.

The Honored Master of Sports of the USSR died at the age of 62 on the night of March 27-28 after a long illness.

“The Russian Cycling Federation expresses its deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Natalia Nikolaevna,” the federation said in a statement.

Melekhina is also a bronze medalist at the 1990 World Championships in the team race and a multiple champion of the USSR and Russia. After completing her career, she worked as a coach at the Chelyabinsk youth sports school “Yunost”.
