The fight will take place on May 18 in Saudi Arabia.
Former interim world heavyweight champion Dillian Whyte commented on the upcoming fight between the WBA, WBO, IBO and IBF champion Alexander Usik (21-0, 14 KOs) and WBC title holder Tyson Fury (34-0-1, 24 KO) for the title of absolute world heavyweight champion.
“I’m struggling to make a prediction for this fight. It’s very difficult to choose. You can make a case for both guys, and it’s 50-50. It’s a matter of who wants it more and who did the right things in training.”
“Fury is waking up for real fights. He will not train with Usyk the same way he trained with Ngannou. This was evident by the way he was in shape when the fight with Usyk was postponed.”
The unification fight between Usik and Fury was first scheduled for February 17, but due to Tyson’s injury it was postponed to May 18. The event will be hosted by Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The WBC proposes to reform the judges for the reporting fight, increasing their number to 5-6 people. Penalties for boxers who refuse to fight are $10 million.
WBC President Mauricio Suleiman announced that an agreement had been concluded between the boxers for a re-fight. The WBO is also ready to sanction the second fight. It was reported that the fate of a possible rematch depends on the holding of the first fight. Fury said that the contract has a mandatory rematch clause, and a re-fight with Usyk could take place in October.
