“No need for socks.” Kostomarov told how his friends made fun of him after his amputation

Olympic champion Roman Kostomarov On TNT’s “Will Show,” he talked about how his friends made fun of him after his amputations.

In early 2023, Kostomarov was hospitalized due to complications from pneumonia. The 47-year-old athlete began suffering from tissue necrosis and underwent several limb amputations. Kostomarov then underwent prosthetic surgery.

– Of course, you have to be joking. It’s easier to relate to it all that way. If you don’t laugh at yourself, other feelings will overwhelm you.

My friend, figure skater Max Stavisky, constantly teases me: “You have these perks: parking is free, you don’t need a manicure or pedicure, your feet don’t sweat, you don’t need socks . I say: “You need socks on your hands,” Kostomarov said.

Kostomarov also admitted that he could only function normally with prosthetics.

— When you stand, you feel like a whole person. But when you get home and undo everything, you realize you’re like a cockroach on your back that can’t turn around. And that’s what you feel in the morning too. Then when you put it all in, you drive a car, you feel normal, you live. The hardest part of everyday life is putting everything on,” he added.

Kostomarov, together with Tatyana Navka, won gold at the 2006 Olympics in Turin, also became world champion twice and won the European Championships three times.
