The pranksters broached the subject of Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva, disqualified for four years for violating anti-doping rules.
Speaking on behalf of an African official, one of the pranksters began: “I heard about the situation of the Russian athlete, for me it is terrible. The Russian government began defending her from the start of the investigation into the allegations. This seems false, because even the head of state said she was innocent.”
In response, Bach noted that in Russia, the 17-year-old figure skater is considered innocent and the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) is called biased.
“And even after a court decision was issued in this case, the Russian government repeated this and even gave him a special welcome, a special honor. They said they supported her and that the court’s verdict was incorrect and biased. It’s really terrible what’s happening there,” declared the IOC president.
