“New competitions will bring cycling in Russia to another level” – Ekimov about the “Race of the Two Capitals” and the big stage race

The “Race of the Two Capitals” and the major cycling race planned for 2025 will be an opportunity to take cycling and competitions in Russia to a new level, said Vyacheslav Ekimov, president of the Russian Cycling Federation (RFC).

On Tuesday, a meeting was held under the chairmanship of Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernychenko on the preparation and holding of the “Two Capitals” multi-day cycling race. This year, it was proposed to organize a test competition “Race of the Two Capitals” between St. Petersburg and Moscow, with stops in cities such as Tver and Veliky Novgorod. In 2025, in honor of the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War, a major cycle race is planned, which will cover several regions of the country.

— We were supposed to implement this project for the race between Moscow and St. Petersburg in 2023, and this season we have the task of testing the concept. This race is very important for us, it is important for us to achieve it at the highest level. And this level should become an example, a guideline for our entire All-Russian road calendar, which should reach a new stage of development.
