Real Madrid will extend Lunin and return Kepa to Chelsea – Fabrizio Romano

The Ukrainian will fight for a place in the lineup with Thibaut Courtois

Management Real Madrid decided on the future of its goalkeepers.

Blancos have finally decided to extend the Ukrainian Andrey Lunin. It was reported that the parties are already negotiating the signing of a new contract. The Ukrainian’s current agreement runs until the end of the 2024/25 season.

Real Madrid is speeding up the negotiation process to extend the contract with the Ukrainian against the backdrop of Thibaut Courtois’ re-departure for a long period. Lunin’s new contract will increase his salary and stipulate a guaranteed number of games that the Ukrainian will play per season. At the same time, Lunin will be the reserve goalkeeper, while the “first number” should remain with Courtois.

And here Kepa Arrizabalaga will return to Chelsea. The goalkeeper is spending the current season with Real Madrid on loan. However, the Spaniard lost competition to Andrei Lunin during the season, which is why the Blancos decided not to buy out Kepa’s contract.

The Blues management will make a decision on the player in the summer. It was reported that Arrizabalaga could continue his career in La Liga, as Sevilla were interested in the player.

Kepa has played 18 matches for Blancos this season (seven clean sheets) in all competitions, conceding a total of 18 goals. His contract with Chelsea runs until the summer of 2025.

Lunin has played 24 games for Real Madrid in all competitions this season. The Ukrainian kept 11 clean sheets, conceding a total of 19 goals.

Real Madrid leads La Liga with an eight-point lead over Barcelona. In the next round of the Spanish Championship, Carlo Ancelotti’s team will visit Mallorca, and before that they will play in the quarter finals of the Champions League against Manchester City.
