Alexander Bolshunov: “It was possible not to start in Kirovsk, but even with poor health we must go to the end”

Three-time Olympic champion Alexander Bolshunov said on that he could not miss the PhosAgro Russian Cup final in Kirovsk, despite his poor health.

On Wednesday, Bolshunov won the pursuit race at the Russian Cup final, starting from eighth position. Second was Sergey Ustyugov (+16.3 seconds), third was Egor Mitroshin (+29.9 seconds).

— In pure time, I understand that I lost. My health is very difficult. You left Serega (Ustyugov) for 10 seconds, then walked at the same speed. You cannot add or subtract. It’s the end of the season, so it’s hard now. It’s okay, we’ll run here, then we’ll rest and recover.

If we count by points in the Russian Cup, the mini-tour could not even start, since there are enough points in all competitions, but I can’t do that. Even if you feel bad, you have to see it through to the end.

— Did you reach an agreement with Ustyugov when you started to run away in the second round?

– No, we didn’t agree. We didn’t communicate before the race. They took the initiative of parallel courses. I understood that there would be a fight between us for first place, and that’s what happened,” Bolshunov said on .

The Russian Cup final in the Murmansk region will end on Sunday.
