Athletistic / Figure skating. Olympic diving champion and now journalist and blogger Elena Vaitsekhovskaya shared her opinion on the possible legalization of somersaults in figure skating.

This could happen at the next International Skating Union (ISU) Congress. It will take place in June.

Tarasova reacted to the possible permission to perform somersaults in figure skating

“I do not understand the discussions around the long-suffering backflip in figure skating. If I assess the situation correctly, even in the event of a positive resolution, the backflip will be allowed in figure skating as a choreographic element which has no fundamental value. In this case, what difference does it make? is it an element of choreography?

From the point of view of common sense, the appearance of such features in the arsenal of figure skaters is a very good opportunity to add entertainment and additional interest to the sport.

In terms of the supposed increase in injury rates, this makes no sense. A backflip exposes the skater to much less risk than any quadruple jump,” Vaitsekhovskaya wrote on her Telegram channel.
