Venezuelan athlete Yulimar RojasOlympic triple jump champion, will miss Olympics 2024 in Paris due to an Achilles tendon injury.
“With great pain and sadness, I want to inform you that during the landing after a jump in training, I felt severe pain, which was diagnosed as an injury to the left Achilles tendon. My heart is broken and I am very sad. I want to apologize for the fact that I will not be able to represent Venezuela in Paris in 2024,” the athlete said on her page on social networks.
Yulimar Rojas won the gold medal in the triple jump at the 2020 Olympic Games. After that, she won all the competitions in which she took part. The 28-year-old athlete became world champion in 2022 and 2023, and also won the Diamond League finals three times in a row.
Rojas was considered the main contender for victory in the upcoming Paris Olympics in her discipline. One of her main competitors in recent years is the Ukrainian Marina Bekh-Romanchuk, who won the Olympic license last July at the Diamond League stage in Chorzow, losing to the Venezuelan in the fight for gold.
In December, Rojas was recognized as the best athlete of 2023, beating, among other contenders, the Ukrainian Yaroslava Maguchikh.
