Son of two-time Olympic champion sets world record in discus throw

Lithuanian Mikolas Alekna set a world record in discus throwing at a tournament in the United States, according to the World Athletics website.

Alekna, in her best attempt, launched the projectile 74.35 meters. It should be noted that the result of the 21-year-old Lithuanian is subject to ratification.

The discus throwing world record stood for almost 38 years. German Olympic champion Jurgen Schulte achieved a result of 74.08 meters in 1986.

Alekna is a European champion, silver and bronze medalist at the world championships. He is the son of two-time Olympic discus champion Virgilijus Alekn.
