Chepik on Lifintsev’s 100m backstroke victory: “He is talented and determined”

Head coach of the Russian swimming team Sergei Chepik told that the new Russian champion in the 100 meter backstroke, Miron Lifintsev, is a talented and sometimes even too serious athlete.

Lifintsev, 17, beat Kliment Kolesnikov over this distance at the Russian Championship taking place in Kazan. He also broke the junior world record, which belonged to Kolesnikov.

“He was aiming for a good result last year, he expressed it without shame, I advised him not to express it. It is best to keep the athlete calm and quiet. Miron is talented, determined, it seems to me that in some ways he is even too serious, but that’s probably a good thing,” Chepik told .

The Russian swimming championship will end on April 19 in Kazan. Watch live broadcasts of the tournament on the channels of the Match holding company and on the sites matchtv.ru and sportbox.ru.
