Vyalbe – about the student Spartakiad incident: “I don’t do rhythmic gymnastics here. There were no open fractures.”

Journalists made much of the incident during the students’ Spartakiad race, even though the athletes did not have open fractures, almost all skiers continued to compete, the president of the Russian Federation said cross-country skiing (FLGR). Elena Vyalbe .

On March 8, during the women’s general start race at the Student Spartakiad in the Krasnodar Territory, several minor skiers were injured as a result of a collapse. In total, 14 skiers failed to finish on the Laura slope. The Executive Committee of the FLGR did not find any violations in the work of the jury after the massive participation of athletes.

— As often happens when a small problem turns into a resonance. It is clear that there were people specially trained for this. Yes, an unpleasant incident. But there were no open fractures or head injuries. Of the 17 athletes hospitalized, 16 continued to compete. Or the doctors there healed all the fractures, they’re probably magicians.

These are not regulations, but competition rules. We use international rules. We don’t have a biathlon. They often start in the fog, when nothing is visible at arm’s length. But there was visibility there. They wrote that the entire ski slope was covered in blood and there was no visibility. How then did they see? I wouldn’t want to exaggerate this problem.

When journalists asked me questions, I said that the athletes were not ready for this journey. FLGR fought until the end not to keep the Spartakiad there. But the senior leadership said we would keep it there. Suddenly, the leaders are white and fluffy, and Vyalbe is in trouble.

A criminal case was opened, everyone was interrogated, but nothing was found. Everyone acted in accordance with the rules, the rules of the competition. At this point the case was closed. In this situation, no one is to blame. Our adults fall often, but children are not ready for this journey.

The media shouted loudly, but no one apologized to us. There were no open fractures. We did not continue with the men’s start because we are not allowed to race without a medical team. They then all left.

It all started with my parents, who didn’t understand that I don’t do rhythmic gymnastics here,” reports a correspondent.
