Russian swimmer Tatiana Belonogoff said she was not going to speak neutrally.
Belonogoff won the Russian championship in the 50 meter breaststroke. Previously, she changed her sporting citizenship from British to Russian.
— There were incomprehensible criteria for selection into the team, it was that I had won competitions and they did not take me into the team, without explaining anything. I’m very happy to have changed, I have absolutely no regrets, I ended up here. It’s a shame we can’t perform, but what can we do?
— What is your position on neutral status?
“If I had qualified I would not have moved to neutral status, I think that is wrong.” No other country was supposed to travel with neutral status, so why should we?
— The Belarusians have left.
“And I’m happy for them, I watched, I supported them, but personally I wouldn’t go.”
— What is your principled position?
“Yes,” reports the correspondent, Belonogoff’s words.
The Russian swimming championship will end on April 19 in Kazan. Watch live broadcasts of the tournament on the channels of the Match holding company and on the sites matchtv.ru and sportbox.ru.
