Russian swimmer Miron Lifintsev said he expected everything from the 100m backstroke final at the Russian Championships in Kazan.
Lifintsev covered the distance in 52.34 seconds and set a junior world record. He broke the record for an Olympic medalist Kliment Kolesnikov – 52.53 seconds. Kolesnikov was second (52.80), with third being Dmitry Savenko (52.90). Two-time Olympic champion Evgeny Rylov (53.13) took fifth place.
“I expected everything, even better, but what happened happened.” I won’t say the goal was directly to set a junior world record, but what happened happened. The fact that he overtook Clement is somehow more prestigious. I can’t relax until the end of the competition, there is a lot to do, I have a lot of work,” the correspondent reports, reporting Lifintsev’s words.
The Russian swimming championship will end on April 19 in Kazan. Watch live broadcasts of the tournament on the channels of the Match holding company and on the sites matchtv.ru and sportbox.ru.
