The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has announced the names of four athletes who are part of the organisation’s Athletes’ Commission.
Seven-time Olympic champion, American track and field athlete became a member of the Commission Allison Felix ; British triathlete, winner of two Olympic gold medals Alistair Brownlee, Canadian sprinter Oluseyi Smith and cyclist Masoma Ali Zada, who competed for the refugee team at the 2020 Games.
Ali Zada, born in Afghanistan, became the first refugee in history to enter the leadership structures of the IOC.
It should be noted that the candidacies of these four athletes were personally approved by the IOC President, Thomas Bach, in accordance with the regulations aimed at “maintaining a balance of genders, regions and sports within the Commission”. With the admission of new members, the IOC Athletes’ Commission now has 14 women and 9 men.
