Chikunova on her injury in the Czech Republic: “My leg is frozen, but I hope to recover by Banja Luka”

Swimming world record holder Evgenia Chikunova told that she was injured after the 100 meter breaststroke at the Russian Championships.

Chikunova won the 100m breaststroke on April 17. On April 19, she won the 200 meter breaststroke. At the end of April, Russian swimmers will compete in Banja Luka. For many leaders, this will be the first international tenure since 2022.

– A damaged muscle. Apparently, because of a great desire to win, my leg flew in the wrong direction and injured a muscle. The mistake was that I didn’t notice it right away. Only the next day. And yesterday, on my day off, I went straight to physiotherapy and massage. But today it was still cold. I actually don’t think it’s a bad thing, because it’s important to know that I can handle any situation. She proved today that she is competitive, despite her injury.

—Are breaststroke swimmers superwomen? You swim with an injured leg, Yulia Efimova swims second without any work.

— I think it’s because we have a very good level of breaststroke. We are leaders among styles. I fought until the end.

– How about just filming and preparing for the Friendship Games?

— The idea came to me, but I thought that I would not forgive myself – to abandon my favorite distance ?! I would definitely regret it. Plus, I still had a relay race, I couldn’t let the team down. I was ready to fight, and that’s basically what I did.

— Will this injury prevent you from going to Banja Luka?

“I have enough time to mend my ways.” I don’t feel my frozen leg, but I think it’s not that bad. I had this problem in ISL too, they fixed it within a week and the match was over. Such moments have already passed, well, it’s okay, I can handle it,” Chikunova told .

The Russian swimming championship ended on April 19 in Kazan. Watch live broadcasts of the tournament on the channels of the Match holding company and on the sites matchtv.ru and sportbox.ru.
