“As if the Americans had not spoken out on their own when investigating the case of the Chinese swimmers” – Svishchev on the USADA statement

Chairman of the State Duma Sports Committee Dmitry Svishchev commented on the United States Anti-Doping Agency’s (USADA) call to reconsider the activities of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) due to the situation of Chinese swimmers.

Earlier, The New York Times published an article stating that trimetazidine was found in the samples of 23 Chinese swimmers ahead of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. According to the source, the Chinese Anti-Doping Agency (CHINADA) conducted its own investigation, as a result of which the party adhered to the version that the substance entered the athletes’ bodies unintentionally and in small quantities. A joint investigation by the organization and Chinese police revealed that traces of the substance were found in the kitchen of the hotel where the Chinese swimmers were staying. It was not possible to know exactly how this substance ended up in the hotel kitchen. The authors accuse WADA of ignoring whistleblower data, as well as inconsistency in handling various doping cases.

USADA then called on governments and the sports movement to review WADA’s activities to “ensure that the concealment of positive samples on the eve of the Olympic Games does not happen again.”

“We see that the doping scandal among Chinese swimmers is growing. USADA has now decided to make a statement; it demands that the case be re-examined with the participation of an independent prosecutor. I am sure that if you dig deeper, you will discover a lot of interesting things in the activities of the AMA. It’s as if the Americans did not come forward on their own during the investigation, ”reports the correspondent of , reporting Svishchev’s words.

Chinese swimmers at the 2020 Olympics won 6 medals (3 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze) and also broke several world records.
