Another punishment for the military invasion of Ukraine – the Russians and Belarusians were not allowed to participate in the World Table Tennis Championship. The International Federation spoke about the adoption of such a decision.
It is reported that at a meeting in Malmo, the executive committee confirmed that the Russian and Belarusian teams will not be able to play in the world championship, which will be held from September 30 to October 9 in the Chinese city of Chengdu.
This decision was made by the ITTF in accordance with the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), despite the fact that in June the Russian team was initially included among the participants of the World Cup.
It should be noted that previous athletes from aggressor countries are not allowed to be suspended in all competitions under the auspices of the European Table Tennis Union. The official reason is Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, and the support of such actions by Belarus.
Recall that the Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine Vadim Gutzeit said that Ukraine is trying with all its might to prevent the return of Russian athletes to international competitions.
