Japanese Kobayashi unofficially broke the world record for the longest ski jump (video)

He managed to fly a distance of 291 m

Japanese athlete Reyu Kobayashi for the second time in two days I unofficially beat world record by flight range by ski jumping.

First, on an improvised springboard in Iceland, the Olympic champion performed a jump on 256 meters. Yesterday he beat his own achievement by 35 meters, managing to fly the distance in 291 m.

The Japanese record is unofficial because the conditions for his jump differ from those set by the International Ski Federation (FIS) at World Cup competitions.

The current official record belongs to the Austrian Stefan Kraft – 253.5 meters. It was installed in 2017.

Kobayashi won a gold medal in the men’s K-98 ski jumping competition at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. At the end of the recently concluded 2023/24 World Cup season, Reyu finished second overall, behind only the aforementioned Kraft. Ukrainian Evgeniy Marusyak finished the season in 45th position, updating the national record.
