Grandfather of a Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva died shortly after 2022 Olympics in Beijing, two-time world champion says Eugene Medvedeva .
Valieva at the 2022 Games helped the Russian team win a gold medal in the team figure skating tournament. At the end of January, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) disqualified the skater for four years for violating anti-doping rules – trimetazidine was found in a sample taken on December 25, 2021 during the Russian Championship. The athlete’s results from this date were canceled, which led to a redistribution of the team tournament medals: first place was awarded to the American team, the Japanese took second, and the Russians received the bronze. Valieva was also deprived of gold at the European Championship.
According to Valieva, the banned drug could have entered her system with the dessert that her grandfather Gennady Solovyov prepared for her. The reasoning for the CAS decision indicates that the athlete’s mother, because she was busy at work, asked Solovyov to accompany Kamila to the Ice Palace for training in order to ensure safety (so that no one knows his home address).
“I want to ask: where is Kamila’s grandfather? There was a version about dessert, grandfather… Where is grandfather? – asked Olympic champion Alexey Yagudin in a broadcast on the YouTube channel “Katok”.
– I’ll tell you where grandfather is. My grandfather died shortly after the Olympics. I would like to add: I recently learned that trimetazidine is completely eliminated from the body without traces that are not found during a doping control within five days. People come to the Olympics less than five days in advance,” Medvedeva responded.
