Prigoda – about participating in the Olympic Games: “I am in the same boat with everyone, I don’t see the point in separating”

Medalist at the World Swimming Championships Kirill Prigoda said he still hopes to compete in the Olympics, although he is not ready to travel to the 2024 Games separately from the team under the current entry requirements.

Prigoda fulfilled the Olympic standard at the international competitions in Banja Luka in the 200m breaststroke, where he won with a result of 2 minutes 08.73 seconds.

— The departure from Banja Luka is exclusively for starting training, now I am getting in shape, I will continue. A lot of training work has been done, now we have to do the competition work.

— Have you watched the World Championships, the results of the Olympic selections? Have you seen the results from Adam Peaty, who is apparently now fully back?

— One of the most phenomenal people I have ever had the opportunity to meet. There’s so much energy emanating from him, I’ve never seen anything like it before. People like him motivate sport.

— So he will do everything to compete for gold in Paris?

“He will do his best, I’m sure.”

– Will you watch?

“As a swimming fan, I will definitely be watching, cheering and worrying. No matter how the swim ends, I will write words of support and congratulations.

“Are you going to watch with a heavy heart or are you already sick?”

— I would like to remember the first selection for the Olympic Games. How is Vladimir Valerievich now? [Сальников] He says we have the opportunity like a needle’s eye, and before Rio it was even smaller for me. But he ran away. I know what it’s like to look for an opportunity until the last minute; if it doesn’t work, I won’t fall into depression and despair. I will continue to swim and look for opportunities and motivation.

“But I don’t agree to go there under these conditions?”

“I’m sitting in the same boat as everyone else.” I don’t see the point in splitting up and going back to work alone,” Prigoda told .

The Swim Wars competition in Banja Luka will end on April 28. Watch live broadcasts on Match Igra and on the websites matchtv.ru and sportbox.ru.
