The Ukrainian national team beat the Netherlands at the 2024 Ice Hockey World Cup
Head coach Ukrainian national hockey team Dmitry Khristich commented on the victory over the Netherlands in the second round World Championship 2024 in Division IB (4:0).
“It’s very good that they think so well of us. But in order to win, you need to work. Double-digit score or not, a win is a win. I am very grateful to our entire team, the goalkeeper, that this was also a clean sheet victory.
“Problems with implementation? We play against a team that doesn’t want to concede, so this happens. In the third period, our guys circled around in their zone, but were unable to score the puck. However, it is very good that we have strength in the third period, although in the first or second we were sometimes inferior in speed. In general, there is a result, and this is very good.”
“A lot of deletions? I don’t think there were very many – six or seven, maybe. But not all deletions were dictated by the game. Somewhere, perhaps laziness, the body was placed incorrectly. This happens, we need to work on it, remind the guys to avoid it.”
“We prepare for each team as one step towards the goal. Of course, we will not remember the friendly game that took place before the World Cup. The team also has six points and we have to go through it to beat everyone.”
The Ukrainian team, having beaten the Netherlands, won its second victory in the tournament. In the opening match, Dmitry Khristich’s team defeated Estonia – 8:0.
The Blue-Yellows occupy first place in Division IB, ahead of China and Lithuania thanks to their goal difference. In the third round, April 30, Khristich’s team will play with the Chinese team. Starts at 12:30.
The tournament in division IB takes place in Lithuania. The winner of the tournament will advance to Division IA, the team that finishes last will drop to Division IIA.
