Svetlana Chimrova: “I don’t even think about participating in the Olympics under the current admission conditions”

Medalist at the World Swimming Championships Svetlana Chimrova told that she would not participate in the Olympics under the current entry requirements.

Many Russian team leaders have previously refused to participate in the 2024 Games under the current admission requirements, even though many have swum faster than the Olympic standard during international competitions in Bosnia and Herzegovina. At the tournament in Banja Luka, Chimrova became first in the 200 meter butterfly and also took second place in the 100 meter event in this discipline.

— I am not selected for the Olympic Games, and in general we don’t talk about it anymore, I don’t think about it. Initially, when I saw the conditions for the Olympic Games, I knew I wouldn’t go. And there can be no question of selections or the Olympic Games. “I don’t even think about it,” Chimrova told .

In February 2022, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) recommended that sports federations not allow Russians and Belarusians to participate in international tournaments. Later, the recommendations were relaxed and in December 2023, IOC head Thomas Bach announced that the organization would allow Russian and Belarusian athletes who passed the selection process for the 2024 Summer Olympics into a status individual neutral. Athletes will be able to perform in Paris without a flag, anthem and other national symbols.

Previously, the All-Russian Swimming Federation (RSF) recognized the criteria for admitting Russians in neutral status to international competitions as unacceptable. Regarding the possible participation of Russian swimmers in the 2024 Olympic Games, the president of the organization, Vladimir Salnikov, declared that this page had been turned.

The Paris Olympic Games will be held from July 26 to August 11.
