The Ukrainian signed a contract for one season
Captain sboron Ukraine in hockey Igor Merezhko became a player Skoda Pilsen. The Ukrainian signed a contract with the Czech Extraliga club for one season.
“Igor is a tall guy, right-handed, incredibly productive. He also has experience in Canadian hockey, where he worked for a long time. He had good results in Slovakia, so we believe that he will carry this over to Pilsen,” said Skoda head coach Martin Straka.
The 26-year-old Ukrainian played for the Canadian Leithbridge Hurricanes, then for the Danish Odense Bulldogs. Igor spent last season in Spissk, with which he became the vice-champion of Slovakia at the end of the 2023/24 season. Igor was recognized as the best hockey player in Ukraine based on the results of 2023.
While playing for the Ukrainian national team, Merezhko was recognized as the most valuable player (MVP) of the 2024 World Cup in Division IB. He also received the award for the best defender of the tournament.
Skoda took 12th place in the regular championship of the elite Czech division. In the first round of the Extraliga playoffs, the club from Pilsen lost in three matches to Litvinov.
