Skripnik: Victory is the best medicine after a series of failures. You can breathe out, but the whole struggle is ahead

The mentor of Metalist 1925 is happy about the first victory in six months and is optimistic about the future

Head coach Metalist 1925 Victor Skripnik commented on the long-awaited victory (3:2) that his team won in a nominally home match of the 27th round UPL against Vorskla.

“For us, victory is the best pill after a long series of failures. Today you can breathe out, but the whole struggle is still ahead. Our opponents win, we win. We look at our championship, where four teams are fighting for two places that will play in the play-offs. I hope that we will be there too.”

“When you win, you go to training in a good mood and prepare for the next game, but when you don’t win for fourteen matches, it puts pressure. I was sure that someday we would win. We had three draws when we lost during the game, but showed character and equalized the score. There weren’t enough goals scored.”

“A very interesting game for the fans, with a lot of chances on both sides, the score could have been 5:4. For coaches, such games are pre-infarction games. I’m happy with the final result, but there are some mistakes in our game that I don’t want to see.”

“I told the guys that we will score first, we will be ahead, the opponent will go forward, we will have more free zones that we will use. Today we succeeded. It’s hard to play with everyone, I hope it’s also hard for everyone to play against us. We have what we have and look into the future with optimism. But the whole fight is ahead, each of the rival teams can lose points.”

Let us remind you that Metalist 1925 was able to win today for the first time in 14 matches. This series began in November last year, even before Skripnik’s appointment. During this time, the team managed to fall to last place, but success against Vorskla allowed it to rise to 14th place (zone of transition matches).

On Monday, May 6, direct competitors from Kharkov – Veres and Minai – will fight each other. A victory for either team will again drop Skrypnyk’s team into the direct relegation zone.

Until the end of the championship, Metalist 1925 has three matches left to play: against Chernomorets (away, May 12), Polesye and Veres. Probably, it is in the last round that the fate of survival for the Kharkov team will be decided.
