St. Petersburg Zenit player Kovalev said he would not watch volleyball at the Olympics

Zenit St. Petersburg passer Dmitry Kovalev announced that he would not watch the volleyball tournament at the Paris Olympics.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced on December 8 that it would grant neutral status to Russian and Belarusian athletes who successfully qualified for the 2024 Summer Olympics. However, recommendations for admission include ban on the Russian national team from participating in team competitions.

— Are you going to watch in particular the Olympic Games and its volleyball tournament, where Russians were not allowed?

— It’s not interesting to watch the Olympics, because Russia doesn’t exist. Without Russia, these places will no longer be as fair.

Well, we will support (France team libero) Zhenya (Grebennikov). However, he is a nice person, a great volleyball player, a great player. We will keep an eye on him.

— In your collection there are medals of the Russian Championship, gold of the Nations League as part of the national team. At the same time, at club level, make your career in Russia. Have you ever wanted to try your hand abroad?

— Sometimes such thoughts came to my mind. But not all goals were achieved in the Russian Championship. And I want – I really, really want – to achieve these goals. You can think about it later. But now I want to be here and I am making every effort to achieve my goals,” Kovalev said, as quoted by Betonmobile.

The Paris Olympic Games will take place from July 26 to August 11.
