According to , Turkey is the main candidate to host the meeting of the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) Congress in place of Norway, which refused to hold the congress due to the participation of Russian representatives.
The Norwegian town of Sandefjord declined to host the FIG Congress this year due to refusal to accept delegates from Russia and Belarus.
The FIG congress in Sandefjord was due to take place in October, but the FIG said it would try to find another venue because Russian and Belarus officials and delegates were banned from attending events in Norway.
The FIG initially allowed Russian and Belarusian athletes to compete as neutrals before imposing a ban on their participation effective March 7. At the same time, representatives of Russia are not prohibited from participating in the FIG Congress.
