Kenyan Eric Wainaina, a double Olympic marathon medalist, is suspected of attacking two people in Tokyo, reports Kyodo News, citing a statement from local police.
Wainaina allegedly hit a young girl and a Tokyo station employee in March. A 50-year-old athlete had a conflict with a girl on the train over using a phone, after which they got off at the station. Wainaina punched a woman and slapped a station worker, leaving the man with minor injuries.
The case was referred to the prosecutor’s office, Wainaina admitted her guilt and expressed a desire to apologize.
“I don’t remember some details because I was too drunk, but I think that’s how it happened,” Wainaina said.
Wainaina won silver at the 2000 Sydney Olympics and bronze at the 1996 Atlanta Games.
