A Japanese triathlete dies under the wheels of a car during training

Japanese triathlete Tsuda Miyazaki died in France from injuries sustained during training, according to the website of the International Triathlon Federation (World Triathlon).

A 25-year-old athlete was hit by a car near Orleans. Miyazaki, who competed at the World Cup in Pontevedra, Spain, did individual training at a foreign base in France.

Local authorities are investigating the incident. The Japanese Triathlon Union (JTU) has sent its staff to France to help sort out the situation with training center staff.

World Triathlon and the Japan Triathlon Union send their deepest condolences to Miyazaki’s family, friends, coaches and teammates. The thoughts of the entire triathlete family are with you in these difficult times.

Toyama Miyazaki, a native of the city, started triathlon in college and won the 2019 Japanese Youth Triathlon Championship.
