Adames promoted to full WBC middleweight champion

Belt’s Previous Owner Jermall Charlo Arrested for DUI

WBC interim middleweight title holder Carlos Adames got promoted to full-fledged world champion.

The belt’s previous owner, Jermall Charlo, was recently arrested in Texas. The boxer is accused of driving while intoxicated, fleeing the scene of an accident and attempting to elude police.

“The WBC has and will continue to do everything possible to support Jermall Charlo during his difficult time with mental health. “After a thorough assessment of the situation and understanding of the facts and timing, Jermall may be promoted to junior middleweight,” the World Boxing Council said in a statement.

“The Board of Governors has decided to confirm Carlos Adames as the current WBC middleweight champion. “Carlos has been exemplary in his support of every action taken by the WBC in support of his colleague throughout this time.”

Adames last fought in June 2023. The Dominican boxer defeated American Julian Williams by technical knockout in the ninth round.

Let us remind you that in December 2021, Adames defeated the Ukrainian Sergei Derevyanchenko by majority decision. The Dominican subsequently knocked out Juan Montiel in October 2022.
