Russian track and field athlete Ekaterina Gulieva (nee Zavyalova, first marriage Poistogova) filed an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against the decision on her disqualification, reports the press service of the independent organization for the fight against negative phenomena in athletics (Athletics Integrity Unit).
Previously, the 33-year-old athlete was disqualified based on data from the Moscow Anti-Doping Laboratory (LIMS). All results obtained from July 17, 2012 to October 20, 2014 are canceled. Due to her disqualification, Guliyeva is also expected to lose her silver medal from the 2012 Olympics.
In 2017, the CAS found Russian Maria Savinova (Farnosova) guilty of violating anti-doping rules and stripped her of the 2012 Olympic gold medal in the 800 meters. In this regard, Guliyeva (then Poistogova), who finished third in the race, became the silver medalist of the competition. Later, Guliyeva herself was already found guilty of violating anti-doping rules, but at that time the suspension was counted from August 24, 2015, so she retained her Olympic medal in London.
