San Diego is in talks to sign Sergio Ramos

The club will debut in MLS in 2025

San Diego is negotiating the transfer of a defender Seville Sergio Ramos.

The parties are at an advanced stage regarding the transfer. Ramos could sign as a free agent as his deal with Nervión expires in the summer.

It was previously reported that a number of clubs from Saudi Arabia, MLS, Japan and Turkey are vying for the player. Among the clubs interested in the Spaniard are Inter Miami and Los Angeles Galaxy.

This season, Sergio has played 34 games for Sevilla in all competitions. He has seven goals and one assist. Sevilla is in 12th place in the La Liga standings.

San Diego is a new club created in 2023. It is partly owned by British-Egyptian businessman Mohamed Mansour. The Siquan Tribe of the Kumeyaay Nation, an indigenous California tribe, is also co-owned. The project is also being helped by famous baseball player Manny Machado, who plays for the San Diego Padres.

San Diego will officially join MLS in 2025, becoming the league’s thirtieth team. Goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa is being considered as a potential recruit for the club.
