Any other player who wants to communicate with the referee will be punished with a yellow card
Head of the UEFA Referee Committee Roberto Rosetti announced an innovation that will be implemented on European Championship 2024.
It consists in the fact that the referees will explain their decisions to team captains – players specially authorized to communicate with the referees.
“We want to ensure that only the team captain who wishes to discuss a decision has the opportunity to approach the referee. The captain is responsible for ensuring that his teammates respect the referee by keeping their distance and not surrounding him. Any teammate who ignores the role of their captain and/or approaches the referee with signs of disrespect or disagreement will be shown a yellow card. Obviously, if the goalkeeper is the captain, then it will be necessary to appoint a field player who can fill this role if an incident occurs at the opposite end of the field,” Rosetti emphasized.
Let us remind you that the Ukrainian national football team will begin preparations for the 2024 European Championship on May 30 in Nuremberg. On June 12, our national team will move west to Wiesbaden, the base city of the blue-yellows during the continental championship.
At the group stage of the European Championship, the blue-yellows will successively play with the teams of Romania (June 17), Slovakia (June 21) and Belgium (June 26). The matches will take place in Munich, Dusseldorf and Stuttgart, respectively.
Ukraine will play at the European Championships for the fourth time. The blue-and-yellows have consistently competed in the finals of the continental championship since 2012.
