Russian figure skater Sofia Shevchenko playing in tandem with Andrei Ejlov said it took him a long time to return to sports.
Shevchenko announced her retirement from show business in March last year, after which she worked as a coach in Averbukh’s group.
— Can you highlight the most joyful moments of the season that brought you pleasure?
— Let’s go back to the other end of the year, because for me they were test skates. Especially rhythmic dancing. It was my return to sport. I realized that I had been walking for a long time to this moment and I knew it would be emotional, but I couldn’t imagine how emotional. The first day of skating, from coming out of the locker room onto the ice to hearing people’s feedback, words of support and joy, it was indescribable and gave me a pretty strong boost of energy. We went out on the ice and didn’t know what to expect. New me, new couple, new team. The old sensations and emotions of the show were already forgotten. What if you’re not accepted?
What if they say it’s bad? What if they say it’s useless? It was unpredictable, but we were ready for any situation and knew we would continue working anyway. Testing yourself, feeling the ice, showing programs to specialists, and not yet with as much responsibility as during competitions – it was a great pleasure,” Shevchenko was quoted as saying by “Championship”.
According to the results of the Spartakiad of the Strongest, the dance duet took sixth place.
