“In fencing, there is no such thing that if someone decides to come to us, the international federation will forbid him” – head of the FFR Mamedov

President of the Russian Fencing Federation and head coach of the Russian national team Ilgar Mamedov told that the International Fencing Federation (FIE) would not prohibit other athletes from coming to competitions in Russia if they so desire.

The BRICS Games will take place in June in Kazan. The Friendship Games will take place from September 15 to 29 in Moscow and Yekaterinburg.

— Regarding the upcoming invitations and performances at the Friendship Games and the BRICS Games, is there any pressure from the international federation?

— The International Federation does not participate. He does not give instructions to the national federations. All this is happening in countries where there is a fencing culture, national fencing federations, etc.

— So, in the case of fencing, the international federation is only a simple regulator?

— What if someone from a powerful country decides to come to us and the federation tells them not to go? Oh no. This can’t happen to us. This is already an interference in the processes of one or another federation of another country. It is clear that the IOC is playing its own game. They always call it “recommendations”. But in reality, they insist on certain decisions. From what I’ve heard, not only has the IOC already joined the Friendship Games, but also WADA. They say the games are not included in the AMA pool and therefore should not take place. But the AMA is someone’s executor. How many years have we lived without them, especially in our sport, where doping does not exist. But, I repeat, at the moment there are no recommendations from the international federation with regard to national federations, Mamedov told .
