Australian figure skater Brendan Kerry will appeal the decision of the United States Center for SafeSport to ban him for life from tournaments in the United States for soliciting minors.
It was previously reported that Kerry, while intoxicated, had sexual contact with underage skaters. One of them was the 2014 Olympic bronze medalist from America.who told reporters what happened.
“Without any prior warning, I received a decision imposing sanctions on me for alleged violations that I did not commit. This decision is not final and I intend to challenge this suspension and seek arbitration, as is my right,” Kerry said in an official statement cited by Reuters.
The skater penalty does not apply to tournaments outside the United States.
Kerry is 29 years old and has competed in three Olympic Games. At the World Championships, the athlete’s best result was a 15th place in 2017.
