The Ukrainian promised an exciting fight
WBO International Champion Denis Berinchik and Mexican boxer Emmanuel Navarrete held a battle of views and a press conference on the eve of a head-to-head fight for the WBO lightweight world champion belt.
“I’m happy for Emanuel that he was the king of three divisions, but this is my weight class. On Saturday night, you will see a great and exciting fight,” Berinchyk said.
The Berinchyk-Navarrete fight will take place on May 18 in San Diego. It will be hosted by the Pekanga Arena complex. The World Boxing Organization sanctioned this fight at the end of January.
Earlier, K2 Promotions CEO Alexander Krasyuk said that the contract stipulated a rematch between the Ukrainian and the Mexican. Another option of the contract is fights with champions of other associations, including a show with WBC champion Shakur Stevenson.
29-year-old Navarrete finished in a draw with Brazilian Robson Conceicao in November 2023 and retained his WBO super featherweight title. If he defeats Berinchik, the Mexican will become world champion in four different weight categories.
The 35-year-old Ukrainian fought his last fight in August against Swede Anthony Yigit. Berinchyk won by unanimous decision and defended the WBO International title, which he has held since 2018.
