“Another person in his place would be lazy” – the figure skating coach spoke about Semenenko’s hard work

Nikita Pchelyakov, coach of the skating groups of Alexei Mishin and Valentina Chebotareva, said in an interview with that the skater Yevgeny Semenenko uses every minute on the ice and gives his best for his development.

Semenenko, 20, is a two-time Russian champion and winner of the Russian Grand Prix final. He has been training in the Mishin group since he was eight years old.

— How would you characterize Evgeny Semenenko?

— He is intelligent, a great athlete, a workaholic. This season we worked a lot on step patterns, and Zhenya often took the fourth level. As a person he is very pleasant, modest, kind and well-mannered.

I remember such an important moment. Training at the end of last season, I just started working in the team. Zhenya arrived at the rink shortly before the end of training, and then he had classes planned at the university. In other words, he was in a hurry. Alexei Nikolayevich told us to go sliding and went to class for the younger group. I look at my watch: there are 15 minutes left before the end of the ice training, I say: “Zhenya, let’s skip this. After all, your university is serious, change now for 15 minutes… Leave peacefully! And Zhenya replies: “No, the boss told us to work, so we have to do it!” In other words, he is very responsible.
