Liverpool have officially announced the departure of Thiago Alcantara

The midfielder will receive free agent status

Liverpool officially announced the departure of the midfielder Thiago Alcantara — the player’s agreement will not be renewed. The club also confirmed the departure of center back Joel Matip.

The footballer moved to Liverpool from Bayern in 2020 and was initially an important fighting unit in Jurgen Klopp’s team. But then the Spaniard began to suffer from injuries.

Last season, Thiago played a total of 28 matches, 18 of them in the Premier League. As for the current campaign, the 33-year-old midfielder spends almost all his time in the hospital. Only once did he enter the field – for five minutes in the match of the 23rd round against Arsenal (1:3).

For Liverpool, Alcantara played 98 matches in all competitions, scored three goals and provided six assists. He was ready to part with the Reds last summer, but then Trabzonspor failed to complete the transfer.

With Barcelona and Bayern, Thiago won 28 trophies, including two Champions Leagues (2011, 2020). With Liverpool there are only three domestic cups.

The team of Jurgen Klopp, who will also leave the club in the summer, is in third place in the Premier League. Liverpool will finish the season on May 19 with a home game against Wolverhampton.
