According to the president, the ceasefire regime does not work with such a vile enemy as Russia
President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky at a meeting with journalists answered a question about the idea of a “truce” during Olympic Games 2024 in Paris.
“We already had a ceasefire. But it doesn’t work very well against this enemy. In addition, there is a risk – who will record that during the ceasefire their forces will not approach us?”
“The ceasefire does not prevent the equipment from moving closer and then launching an offensive. That is, I don’t understand the details. For me, it still sounds like a dead story.”
Let us recall that in December 2023, the Executive Committee of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) decided to admit participants from Russia and Belarus in the status of “individual neutral athletes” to the 2024 Olympic Games.
When making this decision, among other things, the UN resolution on the Olympic Truce was mentioned, which supports the autonomy of sport and the political neutrality of the IOC.
Recently, the President of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Ukraine, Vadim Gutzeit, said that Ukrainian athletes will not be able to perform any actions reminiscent of the war in Ukraine during the 2024 Olympics.
The 2024 Summer Olympics will be held in France from July 26 to August 11. At the competitions, 329 sets of awards will be awarded in 32 sports.
Early in the morning of February 24, 2022, Russia launched rocket and air bombardments of most Ukrainian cities, and then launched a full-scale military invasion. The Russian war against Ukraine has continued for the 814th day.
