Chicherova: “Even if the dream of breaking the world record did not come true, there is no feeling of disappointment”

Olympic high jump champion Anna Chicherova admitted she wasn’t disappointed about not being able to break the world record.

— You have said that you dream of breaking a world record, and that is your main motivation. Is this the main disappointment of your career?

“I also talk to children with this story.” Indeed, this dream was my lighthouse towards which I always walked. Even though it didn’t come true, I’m not disappointed. I’m not lying, because I know I did everything I could. I tried to break the record, the bar was raised to the precious 2.10, but it didn’t work. At the same time, in pursuit of this height, many interesting things appeared in my life, including a national record that has not yet been broken.

– So there is no resentment in your soul?

— At one point, of course, we were disappointed that we weren’t able to take advantage of this opportunity, but now that’s definitely not the case. Over time, I learned to congratulate myself and appreciate everything I accomplished. I remember the little girl running on the trails of Yerevan with her parents, and I understand that she has come a very long way. I have a lot to thank those who helped me and valued me in this process,” Chicherova said, as quoted by Metaratings.ru.

Chicherova is the champion of the 2012 Olympic Games in London, as well as the world champion, European champion and eight-time champion of Russia. In 2016, the athlete was disqualified for two years for using a banned drug.
