Athlete and coach, champion of Ukraine Gavrilyuk died in the war with Russia

Roman is survived by his wife and two daughters

The Ukrainian running champion, later a coach, died in the war against the Russian occupiers Roman Gavrilyuk.

He became the winner of the Ukrainian Championship at a distance of 100 meters. Subsequently he worked as a coach at the Volyn Triathlon Federation.

Roman is survived by a widow and two daughters.

“It is with deep sadness that we say goodbye to our dear friend Roman Gavrilyuk. His kindness and bright smile will always remain in our memory. Everlasting memory. Condolences to family and friends,” said the Lutsk Triathlon Federation.

Ukrainian athletes continue to die in the war with Russia. Thus, in early May, the death of two-time European weightlifting champion Alexander Peleshenko was reported. In April, it became known about the death of former handball player Sergei Chuprina and international master of sports, shooting coach Valentin Dondikov. In March, Master of Sports of Ukraine in rowing, multiple champion of Ukraine and bronze medalist of the European Championship, Dmitry Gubanov, died.

Early in the morning of February 24, 2022, Russia fired rockets and aerial bombardment of most Ukrainian cities, and then launched a full-scale military invasion. The Russian war against Ukraine has continued for the 816th day.
