Hero of Russia, pilot-cosmonaut Andrei Borisenko told that running plays a key role during spaceflight, but noted that on Earth he prefers other sports.
Russia’s main half-marathon with synchronized start, “ZaBeg.RF”, took place on Sunday in all regions of the country.
— Running plays a very important role, especially during spaceflight. A treadmill is one of the tools to prevent the effects of weightlessness during long flights. Every day, regardless of our mood, we run about five kilometers. Before landing, we train even more often on the treadmill, so we run 10-11 km. This is not the kind of running that people on Earth are used to. Specific muscles work there. In my opinion, in space the load is greater than in classic racing.
— Do you participate in mass races?
— I’m not a fan of running on Earth; I prefer active games. Badminton, for example, suits me more. But many cosmonauts run and participate in classic races,” Borisenko told .
