On May 20, it was officially announced that Ebrahim Raisi, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian, as well as other members of the delegation returning after a visit to Azerbaijan, had died in a helicopter crash. The disaster occurred in a mountainous region in northwest Iran.

“On the orders of the Minister of Youth and Sports, all sports competitions in the country have been canceled this week,” IRNA quoted Iranian Deputy Sports Minister Seyed Mohammad Sharvin Esbagyan as saying.

The updated competition schedule will be announced at a later date. The decision on the exact date of the resumption of tournaments will be taken by the provincial administrations, as well as the sports federations.
